ELM Group were a company brought in by the university to give us experience of real world web development. Working in a small group my team of web developers and designers had to gather requirements, design the site, gather feedback, build a working website which could be easily managed and maintained going forward, before finally presenting the final product to the client.
We chose to develop the site using WordPress as it was the only CMS we had experience with however limited that was. Despite this we created our own custom theme and utilising a small number of plugins to provide extra functionality and customisation, enabling us to define post templates for adding content to the different areas. An example of this is projects which can be viewed in the gallery below.
This was a large project which was certainly challenging and not without problems, most of which we overcame to deliver a site which shared features such as a footer and page layouts but utilised different navigation menu structures.
